Lastnight - the fifth Jack Nightingale book

This week I started writing the new Jack Nightingale supernatural thriller - the fifth in the series.  I have a plot that involves a lot of Goths being murdered. And I already have a killer ending for it.  A clue? How about this? At one point Proserpine says to Nightingale - "You'll need meat, Nightingale. Don't forget the meat".

As always my publisher Hodder and Stoughton is ahead of the game and has already done the cover.

If all goes to plan it'll be on the shelves next February.  It's a tremendous show of faith on the part of my publisher - I know some writers who turn in books not knowing whether their editor will accept them or not. Hodder have enough faith in me to design a cover and organise a print run without even seeing the first chapter.  That's a lot of pressure, too, but I find that having a cover designed and a publication date set does tend to make me work harder, though it does mean I have less time to devote to Twitter and literary festivals!  Okay, enough banter, I have a novel to write!   :-)

I'm 15 and I rarely get time to read books for fun at the moment with exams in my last year of school and stuff, but I just can't put the Jack Nightingale books down! I wish we could study your books in English instead of studying King Lear! I've bought the series now and managed to get my family intrigued too. Can't wait for Lastnight to come out. :)

Hi Stephen, would just like to say after reading the Jack nightingale novels that i think they are brilliant,I started looking into your other works and am halfway through the spider shephard series, Inspector Zhang books are also ready to read when i get a spare minute but i have a bet with my sister who seems to think the jack nightingale novels will end sometime soon where as i think they can go on, which is the case and will jack and Jenny ever get it together? lol

Love the Jack Nightingale series, haven't been able to put them down, eagerly awaiting book 6. In the meantime I've been working through Spider Shepherd equally addictive and I cannot put them down. Can't really think of many books (or series of books) were I've be so completely engrossed.

Excellent work, thank you very much!

I am working on it, Kelly! I have a title - San Francisco Night. There should be a clue to the plot there!

You are one of those rare authors who manages to write book after book that I find hard to put down, once I have started reading them.Love the Shepherd and Nightingale series. When I read the cover of Nightfall, I was not sure if I would enjoy it. I am not a fan of supernatural books. However, I loved it, and the following books in the series. Just finished Nightshade which was brilliant. I am now going to start Lastnight. I know i will be engrossed! Keep up the GREAT work

R.E book 6: ooh I can't wait! Please say Prosephine will be in the story. I like the weird camaraderie she and Jack have. I think she has a soft spot for him. I can tell because she hasn't used his innards to fashion a new collar for her faithful hellhound yet!

An avid book reader, I've just read all 5 Jack Nightingale books in 2 weeks, I couldn't put them down ( much to the annoyance of my family!!) best books I've read this decade!! Hurry up with book 6 Ive already Started withdrawal symptoms !! ;)

I read all 5 of the Jack Nightingale books in 5 weeks. (I finished Lastnight last night)
Now while I wait for the sixth one to come out, I will read some of your other books. I may even start the Spider Shepherd series but I don't normally like having too many series going on at the same time...
Any idea when book 6 will be published?
