The Nightingale website is done, the first version anyway! You can see it at http://www.dev.andyfoulds.co.uk/stephen_leather/sl_test_01.html
I have already bought www.jacknightingale.com and will be putting the site there in a few days.
I think it works really well and will hopefully pull in new readers! We'll see.
I have finally bought a Mac, of which more later!
I am now writing the new Jack Nightingale book, which will be called either Midnight or Nightmare, to follow on from Nightfall. Only done 4,000 words so far but I'm having fun doing it.

Good news Steve.
Hope you find some time to empty your inbox from time to time ;)
Steve, Just finished reading Private Dancer online - did it in 1 day. First book I ever read online so thanks as I was going to buy that, glad it was free. Had a draught of books and was picking them up at booties and then reading online reviews - Cornwell and Ryan and then deciding I couldn't even be arsed to start em!
Then I remembered I had a book that I got for my birthday Jan 2009 that was signed. That was Live Fire so I guess you were in Waterstones Bournemouth / Poole / Dorset sometime recent?
Anyway, read it and couldn't put it down. I have a new favourite character! I like him almost as much as Reacher. And I have read all of them. I bought the latest as it was so good, Dead men - another cracking read. I think I am going to start yours from the beginning. My favourite author is Walters but her output is not that prolific. I then got into Cole and Child. Cole has lost her way - same old shite. I am still entranced by Child though. And now I have you and also Billingham.
Love the realism in your books. I always wonder why characters like Reacher and Spider are never made into Hollywood films?
So much better than most of the tripe films. People love Bond, Bourne - surely there is room for these great characters?
Anyway - just a bum licking email I guess! Thanks for Private Dancer. The epilogue I read on Google - is that it?
Cheers
Ed
Not sure about putting my password into this site but if you would like to reply

Cheers
Does not seem a lot of info about Jack Nightingale, from the test url you posted seems a big departure from what you have done before. Does this mean your now with a new publisher?
Good luck with Jack Nightingale, just finished Dead Men - gripping. Felt sorry for Elaine at the end, a very vivid character.
Just checking through your website, you once recommended a biographical book by a journalist with braces (I recall from the front cover) but can't find it on your website anymore. I recall him doing BBC's hardTalk but it's not Stephen Sackur.
Any clues or am I just not looking hard enough.
Hi Ed - Not sure if the epilogue is on Google...it basically sums up what happened to the main characters after the book ends. It means that you should still buy the book even if you read the free downloadable version!
Hi John -
The journalist with braces... first I was thinking leg braces and then I thought teeth braces and then of course I realised it was trouser braces and it's Andrew Neill, former editor of the Sunday Times. I think his book is out of print now but you can look for copies on Amazon.co.uk. I think it's on my 'how to get published' page.
Nightingale is a big departure for me, but Hodder and Stoughton will be publishing the series under my name. The Jack Nightingale books will be published in January each year and the Dan Shepherd books in July. It basically means that I'll now be working twice as hard from now on!
Hello Stephen,
I'm an avid reader of your books, just want you to know I love them all, especially Shepard series. Keep it going!
Just finished Nightfall, didn't enjoy it as much as your other books as I don't like supernatual, non beleiver like Jack!! but like the character very much.
I have read all your books but have still got Private dancer to read that my daughter bought me for Xmas 08 from Amazon as Its was the only place she could get a copy.
I LOVE "Spider" books, can't wait for the next one.
Janet
Hi Janet - You might not enjoy Private Dancer as it's not really a thriller and it's very different from the rest of my work!
Steve,
I literally just finished reading nightfall not 10 minutes ago, I enjoyed it very much, I could not put it down towards the end! I had to check out when the next one is coming out and its good to see you're already on your way, and enjoying it. Can't wait to give it a read!
Cheers,
Reece
Cheers, Reece!
I have just read nightfall and couldn't put it down.
I understand it's not your usual kind of book but in all honesty this was the first time I came across one of your books. If they are as great as this you have a new fan!
Thanks, Chaletmaid! ;-)
Hi Steve - I'll be honest and say I'd never heard of you before, but I bought Nightfall yesterday at my local supermarket and finished it 15 minutes ago, hence google searching "Jack Nightingale" after visiting the JN site!
Great book, I can't wait to read more. Having a (perhaps too) keen in the occult and demonology - blame my Catholic upbringing - I loved the numerous references and will be doing more research based on the content of the book.
So yeah, just wanted to say thanks, the story was fantastic and I will be keeping tabs for the next one!
Dave
Cheers, Dave!
Just finished reading Nightfall absolutely loved it ! Hurry up and finish next one cant wait !!!
Hi,
I absolutely loved nightfall and can't wait for the next one. I hadn't read any of ur books before until someone recommended I read nightfall as I like thrillers! I wasn't expecting the occult theme but thought it was brilliant and worked well - I couldn't put the book down! Thanks
Have just finished Nightfall - brilliant! I read it over a weekend as I couldn't put it down. The first time I had heard of you but I will definitely be reading more - can't wait for the next JN book (my partner says he has now become a book widower...)
Sam
Thanks Sam, thanks Kim!
Hi Steve, just read Nightfall, could not put it down. I cannot wait for the next book. Its stirred an interest in the occult. Cheers Dave Frost
Hi Steve, Just finished Nightfall and absolutely loved it. What an amazing book that kept me gripped and up till after midnight! can't wait till the follow up comes out and i'll certainly be buying it. You're amazing! Sheena (Scotland)
I have read every book you have wrote, and needless to say get nothing done for a couple of days as I can never put the books down until they are finished!!!
Nightfall is definately very different to anything you have wrote but it was brilliant...can not wait for the follow up!!!
Keep up your amazing work
I enjoyed reading nightfall up to a point but cannot understand the constant references to smoking which must have accounted for about 10% of the content. If it were not for the fact that you portray Jack as a littering slob, as many smokers are, I would suspect that you are being paid by tobacco interest to promote this anti social/unhealthy habit. Why don't you make amends by having Jack give up the filthy habit in your next book.
Hi Steve - and I enjoyed your posting, up to a point! Ssadly Jack is his own man and there's nothing I can do to change him. He's an adult and he knows the risks but he wants to smoke. What can I do? I know what you mean though. I see all those fat people wandering around and really I want to force them to stop eating, but you can't, can you? And whenever I see a stupid person I want to force them to learn, but you can't, can you? And everyday I see people who would definitely benefit from a bit of cosmetic surgery. But we have to let people live their own lives, don't we?
just finish nightfall cant wait for the follow on I hope
steve.....
nightfall....... what a fantstic read, captured my imagination completely...
just back from holiday, read the book in a (long) day
absolutely gutted to return only to find i have to wait until january for the next book.....
can you post any teasers for the next jack nightingale book??
or just release it sooner??
heh
cheers
adrian
Thanks, Adrian - Yeah, I'll put the first chapter of the new Nightingale book on my website next month!
Just read Nightfall this weekend; my first book of yours and it was a gripping and terrifying read (when read in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere!) then I quickly read The Basement (free - thank you) and whilst it was an uncomfortable read in some places, the twist was shocking (and I normally spot them a mile off). I'll be looking foward to the next Jack Nightingale. Thanks.
Thanks Elaine!
Just finished Nightfall and thought it was damn good, can't wait for the next one to come out!!! Really could not put this book down, good work :)
Liz, West Yorkshire, UK
Glad you enjoyed it, Liz!
Just finished reading midnight
excellent read really could,nt put it down, one of the best books I;ve enjoyed for a long time
cant wait for the other books,
Thanks so much, Colleen!
Stephen, just finished reading Nightfall, great read, brought back memories of when I was a kid reading the Dennis Wheatley novels. Although set in a different era and Jack Nightingale could not be more different than Wheatley's hero, the Duke de Richeleau, I enjoyed the book immensely and look forward hopefully to the next Nightingale yarn.
Cheers
Stewart
Thanks, Stewart!
Excellent read- couldn't put it down..
Found your book left by outgoing guests of our country farmhouse which we rent here in SW France to holidsy-makers from around the world, along with a couple of other paperbacks. It looked promising and needless to say I have been very un-productive over the last day or so. Thought the book ending was too open, so looked on-line and found another is due soon- oh goody! Shall put the book back in the houses small bilingual library, hopefully it will introduce your books to others.
from frenchcountryfarmhouse.com
My comment was for Nightfall..oops forgot to say
just read my 1st book of yours ,nightfall couldnt put it down will be looking for all your books now ,loved every page ,very different from my usual read , regards carole
Hi Stephen I must adimit ive never heard of you or resd any of your books before, you were the free choice of a buy one get one free. but what a free choice i loved Nightfall a brill read. how long does it take to wright a novel? Its going to be a long wait to here what Robbie has to say. Stop reading your inbox an keep wrighting. Amanda
Thanks Amanda - it takes about six months to write a book, sometimes longer! The sequel to Nightfall is called Midnight and its already done - it will be on the shelves next January!
Hi Shephen,
Just finifhed reading Nightfall - it is one of those books you do not want to leave down.
I even stopped reading the current book to read Nightfall - when I was given it to read I opened it and read the first chapter - just to see what it was about - bad (or in this case good) mistake. I left the other book to the side and Nightfall wasn't too far away from my hand until I finished it.
Brillant ending - making sure we all want to get the new one - I'm happy to hear it's finished now and it has now been added to my Chrisse Pressie list along with all your other books. You have joined the ranks - as far as I'm concerned of books to keep and revisit again after a lot of months - you always get more out of a book on the second, third or fourth reading.
My husband is going to kill my friend who lent me the book - my study is full of books by various authors and he's telling me to clear some of the books out - that's like asking him to clear out his music.
I know there are ebooks now and sensibly that would be ideal for me BUT I like to hold a book in my hand and turn the pages.
Now I'm going to have to find a home for your books on my shelves!!
Looking forward to reading the rest of your novels.
Maggie.
As a former member of the RAOC Ammunition service, dealing with EOD I found Spider Shepherd a real book, had to be read at once just like Dick Francis, seldom paused for food. I had doubts about the new series, Jack Nightingale until I started it, went without food again. Cant wait now for Midnight. I do need to slim a bit more. I have all your books and read them again from time to time. The Bomb Maker was a very good read.
Peter Birchall. Kendal
Thanks Maggie, thanks Peter!
Hi Stephen,
As I like many others can't wait for midnight, is there any news as to when the first chapter will be posted?
Yours in anticipation,
Mike
Hi Mike - We're editing Midnight as we speak! I'll probably revamp the website early November and put the first chapter of Midnight, and hopefully the cover, up then!
Not enjoyed a good book for ages, Nightfall had me hoked but on sleepless nights was a bit scared reading with a tiny tourch light ( as not to disturb the other half!! ) Look forward to the next J Nightingale story. Keep them comming :)
Hi Steve, I have read most of your books and am working my way through the rest. I was a little worried about Nightfall as it was obviously going to be different from your other works. Well I should of known that you would not disappoint. What a great read. I cannot wait for the follow up.You have not written a book yet that I have not enjoyed. Love the Dan Shepherd series. Keep up the good work. Many thanks.
Hi steve,
After reading Nightfall in 1 day(at work :S) i must say it was a fantastic read i just couldn't put it down, i've read some of the spider books to which i also enjoyed thoroughly.

Ted, Dazz, Paul and Owen!
Thanks so much!
Just about to start the third Jack Nightingale book, where things get really really crazy!
Hi Stephen,
just finished reading "Nightfall" a few days ago and I loved it. Especially the part where Jack still doesn't know what's going on and is trying to figure everything out. Jack is a great character. I began reading this book just after I got some disturbing and shocking news about my own health and I have to say that your (Jack's) thoughts about dying, religion, heaven and hell etc. in that context are so accurate and actually helped and inspired me.
Im looking forward to the next book.
Cheers,
Lars
Thanks so much, Lars!
I hope everything works out for you...
Stephen
Hi Stephen ..
Just finished reading nightfall,..
WOW.! What a read! What a ride!
What an adventure! I could not put it down! Gripping and brilliant !
I to enjoy a good whisky and a smoke, so Jack is my type of character.
Cant WAIT for the follow up, really
enjoyed nightfall ;)
I need more! hehe
thanks Stephen !
cheers Duncan
Hi Stephen,
Just finished Nightfall, a gift from my daughter, for the second time. She obviously knows me too well. Excellent reading ;-)
Is Midnight still for hitting the shelves in January?
Best wishes,
Terry
Hi Duncan, Hi Terry!
Midnight should be out on January 20.
I'm just about to to put the first chapter up on my website, www.stephenleather.com
Thanks for the reply, I love Graham Masterton's 'Jim Rook' series and your Jack Nightingale promises to give us an altogether better ride. Here's to Jan 20th and beyond ;-)
Absolutely loved the last two works in the Jack Nightingales Series, Nightfall and MIdnight, myself and my Husband couldnt put them down and read them in one day!! Please tell me theres more to come soon?!?
please! more jack nightingale to come???
Sure! I'm trying to finish Nightmare as we speak!
Hi Steve, got Nightfall last week and was completely engrossed (my wife says I was like the invisible man until I finished it!) Meanwhile I have 3 others to keep me goin for now. Love Jack, what a character, cant wait for the next one, when is it ready? Usually read horrors from Mr Herbert but yours is great too so I guess I'm broadening my horizons! Telling everyone about Nightfall and have a cue of friends and family ready to read. Keep up the good work, and thanks for getting me back into the reading zone!, Rick.
Just finished Nightfall and Midnight. What cracking reads, couldn't put them down until I had finished reading them. They both reminded me of two Dennis Wheatley novels To The Devil A Daughter and The Devil Rides Out but yours were a better and more thrilling read. They made the Wheatley novels into movies it would be great to see your two books made into a film or mini series. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Peter
Dear Stephen
Both amazing,Hope you have more in store.
Many thanks
Owen
Stephen please tell me there will be a 4th jack nightingale book...????
Hi Peter, Owen and Paul - I'm about to start on the 4th and there will be at least one more after that.....
Looking forward to the 4th Nightingale book, when will it be available?
The new Nightingale book will hopefully be out in April 2013!
I have just read the 3 Nightingale books one after the other, unable to put down. Stumbled across these in the Library.
So pleased to see that there are more to follow. Cannot wait to get my next literary fix.
Helen
Thanks Helen. I've just finished the first 20,000 words of Nightshade! :-)
Hi there Stephen, bought Nightfall and Midnight in 2nd hand bookshop on holiday and couldn't put them down. Terrific story with superb humour which bounds along at a cracking pace. Have just bought and started Nightmare and am delighted the series will continue. Will have to start reading your other novels until the new Jack Nightingale next year. Thanks a million :-)
